The Road Through Struggle

When you’re trusting God in hard times, the road through struggle rarely feels straight or simple.

Driving at night in the fog is scary. Your headlights don’t reach very far, and most of what’s ahead and around you disappears, especially on a road you have never traveled. What helps is keeping your eyes on the painted lines and, when they’re there, those small reflective markers that catch the light. They don’t show you everything, but they give you enough to stay in your lane.

I’ve had nights like that, where the fog felt thick and I could not see very far…the only way forward was to trust the markers. Life can feel the same. We walk through seasons when the bigger picture is hidden, and the only way forward is to pay attention to the signs God has placed in front of us. His Word, the help from others, and those quiet reminders that He has not left. They may not answer every question, but they help us take the next step.

Trusting God in hard times

God’s Word

When depression or anxiety settles over the mind like a heavy fog, Scripture becomes that solid line on the road. Psalm 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”

God’s Word doesn’t always clear the fog all at once, but it does give us enough light to keep moving. Scripture steadies our steps, and God also gives us people to walk beside us. Anchored men lean on Scripture each day, even when it feels distant, or their emotions remain unchanged. Over time, those steady doses of truth build strength and keep them from drifting off course.

Community

Stress, depression, and anxiety often push us toward isolation, but God did not design us to walk alone. Brothers and sisters in Christ are like reflective markers, quiet but steady, often unnoticed until you realize how much you need them. Men often learn the most about trusting God in hard times when everything else feels unsteady.

A short prayer, a text message, a brief conversation… these simple acts can be enough to keep us moving forward. Anchored men don’t pretend to be self‑sufficient. They invite trusted people into their struggle and let others remind them of what is true when they’re having trouble seeing it.

Prayer

It’s the steady breathing that keeps us going in the fog. Sometimes we don’t even know what to say, and that can make us feel like we’re failing. Romans 8:26 reminds us that the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groans too deep for words.

Anchored men don’t measure prayer by how polished it sounds. They measure it by honesty. On some days, the prayer might be as simple as, “Lord, help me take the next step,” or, “God, I don’t understand, but I’m still here.”

God’s Presence

Isaiah 41:10 says, “Fear not, for I am with you.”

God does not promise that depression or anxiety will never press in, but He does promise that His presence will not leave. His nearness becomes the anchor that holds us when our feelings are unstable and our thoughts feel out of control.

Anchored men cling to this promise, not because they always feel strong, but because Christ is strong for them. Even when His presence is not felt, they trust that He has not moved and that He is holding them fast.

When the Fog Lifts

Fog never lasts forever. Eventually, the road opens up, and you can see a little more clearly and farther. Life often works the same way. Dark seasons can feel endless while we’re in them, but they are not permanent.

God’s Word assures us that light will break through, and His presence will carry us until it does. Revelation tells us there is coming a day when we won’t need the sun or the moon, because God Himself will be our light.

Anchored men don’t wait for perfect clarity. They keep walking, step by step, knowing God is with them.
